Utah Studies: A Day worked on book work with their new economics packet. B day finished the mining video while "mining" the chocolate chips out of cookies.
Drawing: They finished their brainstorming and front/side views of their cartoon characters. When finished they started on their practice comic book cover or comic. The book cover will need the title, character sketch, and background. The comic needs at least 3 squares, dialogue, and the character in every box.

Utah Studies: the counselor a gave a presentation on college.
Drawing: we started our next project on cartooning. We discussed favorite cartoons or superheroes-- their personality, plot and characteristics. Students practiced drawing Popeye with this video clip. Then students came up with their original cartoon. They should consider the name, personality, looks, circumstances, props, and sidekicks. They started making thumbnail sketches. I have characature examples in class. If students want an animal cartoon rather than a human here is a link for how to draw different cartoon animals:

They worked on step 7 of their road trip. We had labtops so most of them did it in drive on their Indian Hills google accounts (first.last@indianhillsmiddle.com). We will have one more class day to work on this. But if they did not get a lot done they should start working on it at home. Here is a copy of an example journal entry.
Drawing:
We had guest speakers come and discuss artist careers. Here is a powerpoint they used.
